The practice of Acupuncture started in China several thousand years ago and was first introduced into Europe in the 17th century. Since the 1970’s considerable scientific research has been carried out due to the huge amount of public interest and demand for Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is a medical treatment which can relieve symptoms of some physical and psychological conditions and may encourage the patient’s body to heal and repair itself if it’s able to do so.
Acupuncture stimulates the fine network of nerves in the skin and sometimes nerves in the deeper tissues too. These then affect the central nervous systems control of other body organs.
Modern research shows that Acupuncture can affect most of the body’s systems, including the nervous system, muscle tone, hormone outputs, circulation, antibody production and allergic responses as well as the respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems.
Recommended by NICE - National Institute for Clinical Excellence - for the treatment of back pain, Acupuncture is recognised as a suitable alternative to drugs, physical rehabilitation or various other medical treatments and procedures.
